The charges against Josef Fritzl, 73, carry a prison sentence of ten years to life in prison.

Mr Fritzl is also charged with slavery and rape. If found guilty, he faces 20 years in jail on those charges.

He has been in custody since the case came to light in April and a trial is expected to begin early next year.

Mr Fritzl fathered seven children with his daughter Elisabeth in a cellar at his home in Amstetten, west of Vienna.

Last month he was cleared as mentally fit for trial.

The state prosecutor’s office in the town of St Poelten said Mr Fritzl was being charged with murder in connection with the death of his seventh child, who died in the cellar in 1996 shortly after birth.

Austrian prosecutors say the newborn died because Mr Fritzl failed to seek help, even though he was aware that the baby might die.

Mr Fritzl had told police that the child, one of twins, had been born dead and he had burned the body in a stove.

The 74-year-old is being held in a Sankt Poelten prison - one of Austria’s toughest - where he spends 23 hours per day in his cell watching TV and sleeping.

Prison guards allow him only two 30-minute exercise sessions per day under careful supervision because of the threat of violent reprisals by inmates who despise the incestuous rapist.

Prison staff have intercepted plans by inmates to sexually torture Fritzl before killing him. The inmates plan to rape him with toilet brushes before beating him to death.

Circuit City Stores Inc., the second largest consumer electronics chain in the U.S., said it will immediately close and liquidate 155 stores and lay off thousands of employees as it struggles to survive an increasingly dreary holiday shopping season.

Citing a deteriorating economy, tightening credit limits by its suppliers, and an updated assessment that found its inventory was worth less than it expected, Circuit City said it would close the stores in 55 U.S. markets Tuesday and immediately begin liquidation sales on Wednesday.

A commercial bus heading to a casino struck and killed a pedestrian at the Gulf Freeway and Woodridge on Friday night.

The driver of the bus, who was traveling eastbound on Woodridge, told police he felt a "bump in the roadway" when making a right turn onto the southbound service road about 10:36 p.m. After pulling over, he determined he had struck a man, later identified as 55-year-old Santos Velazquez, and called police.

The driver was not speeding at the time of the incident and was not believed to be intoxicated. The accident, which remains under investigation by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, brings the number of traffic fatalities in Houston this year to 170.

A man who confessed to strangling his ex-girlfriend before dismembering her and cooking her remains on two patio grills was convicted Thursday in a Houston court.

Timothy Wayne Shepherd now faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

According to reports, very little was found of the victim, save part of a tooth in Shepherd’s garbage disposal, 30 pieces of charred bone and some hair. Authorities say that after killing 19-year-old Tynesha Stewart, he chopped up her body in his bathtub before grilling her remains to discard them.

Neighbors of Shepherd, 28, testified they heard his bathtub running continuously for two days, and recalled being inundated by smoke from the barbeque grills. Shepherd told them he was cooking for a wedding at the time.

Reports say that friends and family of the couple, who dated for three years, knew of physical abuse during the relationship, and Shepherd had told at least one witness that if he had to kill Stewart, he would do it in the manner for which he was convicted.

With the worsening economy everything is for sale on Craigslist, including one kidney from someone self-described as a healthy, healthy, broke and about to be homeless 35-year-old.

Selling a kidney is unquestionably illegal but its hard to tell if the ad is serious or a prank.

In a Craigslist posting under the barter heading of the Miami-Dade, Florida Craigslist on Wednesday at 2:51 a.m., an unidentified individual said that a need to pay debt drove a decision to offer a kidney for sale for $75,000 plus medical expenses.

However, auctioning, selling or bartering a kidney violates laws in the United States, and probably violates Craigslist policy.

An initial email from AHN Media Corp. to the blind Craigslist reply email address brought a response from a man claiming to be the person who ran the ad, but there were some discrepancies in identity.

The Craigslist ad identifies the person selling the kidney as being 35 years old while the person who answered the email to the ad identified himself as a 26-year-old veteran.

According to his email, his woes began in Chicago when his landlord was foreclosed on there. He said that he and his girlfriend couldn’t find another place to live in that area that they could afford on what he earned from a dead-end security job.

They relocated to Florida to move in with his parents. However, the economy crashed shortly after he arrived, the job market dried up and he has been unable to find any job, he said.

Worse still, he says that his mother and step-father, who are themselves respectively unemployed and under-employed, are now about to lose their home because they can’t pay lot rent for their trailer.

"So in a month I went from dead end job with the promise of being outdoors, to being jobless and on the verge of accompanied homeless-ness. People wonder how the "Financial Crisis" is affecting regular people, how about no company is hiring right now, because they’re all scared shitless. [T]hats the Cliffs notes version. [A]nd even though it’s illegal, and in many ways immoral, I’m hoping there’s some rich POS Republican who needs a kidney. If I were a woman, I’d sell my eggs, or be stripper. I’ve read they can even get upwards of 40k for bringing a baby to term for someone else. Lucky broads," he wrote.
