An Idol Threat!
Josiah Leming, the teary homeless singer who was the last to be axed before the top 24 round on American Idol Season 7, is facing an Idol threat in regards to his upcoming album.
According to The New York Post, Simon Fuller’s 19 Entertainment, the force behind Idol, is threatening to block the release of Leming’s debut disc, due in January, citing violation of terms of agreement. Leming, like all contestants, signed a strict contract with 19E that stipulates he must record with the Idol-handpicked label, Sony/BMG, and gives the company exclusive right of refusal for management and merchandising.
Leming signed with Warner Bros. earlier this year.
"Josiah was the only Idol contestant ever to get a record deal who didn’t make the top 24, and one of only four contestants to get a deal this year," a rep for the 19-year-old said. "He has personal reasons for getting his music out, threat or not."
His tug-at-your-heartstrings backstory was well-chronicled on Idol - he lived in his car and his mom has terminal cancer - Leming is determined to get his album on shelves "while [his mother] is alive to share it."
Idol producers have yet to respond to Leming’s lawyers, his rep said.
Pickler Dishes on Her Depression
Country crooner Kellie Pickler may be enjoying major professional success, but beneath a veneer of perfection, she was “crumbling” on the inside.
Last year, the American Idol alumna, 22, struggled with depression and suffered severe reactions from anti-depressants, she tells People in an upcoming interview. She also faced heartbreak over the end of her relationship with hockey player Jordin Tootoo, as well as difficult family issues.
“Everything in my professional life seemed great,” she says. “But in my personal life, I was just crumbling.”
Just as Pickler was moving over her own hurdles, her father, a convicted felon, was sent back to jail. He was first released soon after Pickler’s Idol run. In the meantime, her mother, who had abandoned Pickler at age two, unexpectedly reappeared in her life.
“I was an emotional wreck,” Pickler says.
Yet, despite the hardships, the singer says she has a strong support system — not to mention some recent professional coups. Pickler has a new man in her life (Nashville songwriter Kyle Jacobs) and some good girl-pals in fellow singers Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. Plus, in the past year alone, she’s released a new album and taken home three Country Music Television Awards, including Performance of the Year.
For a young woman with some real heartache to write about, Pickler clearly knows how to sing away the blues.
Speaking of Kellie Pickler and her new album. I bought it and it’s very good! There are several songs that I totally click with and can feel the emotion she’s feeling. I’ll blog about those later. But for now check out this upbeat song called “Rocks Instead of Rice”…. I love it.

New Nerd In Town….
Kevin Covais, of American Idol Fame, is becoming the next Hollywood Nerd it seems. He just starred in "College" and is set to appear in "Labor Pains" which stars Lindsay Lohan in 2009. Wow. That’s pretty good for a kid who was called Chicken Little and had pretty much no chance of winning American Idol. It seems his geeky image has helped him boost his career. I have yet to see "College" but the previews make it look pretty funny.
Maybe one day they’ll remake Revenge of The Nerds… I could see him in that movie….
U Know Paula’s Pissed!
Pop-lite song writer/producer Kara DioGuardi, who is young enough to be judge Paula Abdul’s kid sister, has been added to the singing competition, which last season suffered a decline in ratings, as did virtually every other program on the primetime landscape.
Fox says it is making the change for Paula’s sake. Seriously, it did.
"For the past seven seasons, Paula has had to endure the experience of being the only woman at the judges’ table," Mike Darnell, who oversees reality programming at Fox, said in an announcement. "She’s been an island of consideration and gentle criticism between Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell, offering her invaluable expertise as a performer and No. 1 artist to the thousands who have competed on ‘American Idol’. With Kara by her side, Paula finally has some back-up and now there is going to be a lot more ‘girl power’ on the show."
I Can’t wait to see how this is going to change the show. You Know Paula is going to be fighting for attention this season and she’s most likely going to take her "Whackjob" status even higher!!!
